I am a skeptic. I don't believe in sasquatch, I don't believe in ghosts, and while I do believe life exists on other planets I don't think they've visited us and are stealing our cows or abducting our neighbors. That said, our funeral home decided to go seven shades of freaky on me last night.

I was in the living room on the second floor watching a web feed of the 24 and just generally derping around (the funeral home has faster internet than my house). Dad had gone out to see the symphony downtown, but around 11 I heard him back in his office on the third floor. All the correct usual sounds are there, the squeaking office chair, the occasional thump of a file box being moved, a file cabinet drawer opening/closing, or him banging his knee on the bottom of the desk, and two or three times foot steps and the sound of the office door opening and closing. Dad's overworking himself as usual, I pay his sounds no mind.

A little after midnight I go to the kitchen for a soda. When I do I look outside and see dad's car isn't in the lot. Now it's a little strange. I go back to the living room for a bit, now paying attention. The occasional office sounds persist. Now curious I decide to investigate (because I've learned nothing from horror movies. I ascend the stairs to the third floor and find it completely dark. All the lights are off, dad's office is empty. As I stand in the office doorway all the sounds have stopped. I wait, I look around, and I head back downstairs. The moment I'm back on the second floor I hear another thump from the office above. It is at this point I decide to do what any rational person would do: return to watching the feed of the 24.

Well, then that is just terrifying. In your shoes I think I would just pretend it is a break in and go about my business hoping they don't come in there.

Eh. Every few months the place gets a bit noisy (though it's never lasted this long before). I tend to just ignore it and go about my business.
